So online dating has had more bad press recently but let’s be realistic, it is actually the current ‘preferred’ way to find potential dates. It is easy enough, you can trawl through the meat catalogue from the comfort of your settee, in your PJs and with a drink in hand without pushing yourself too much.
The main complaints when people do eventually decide to meet are either that ‘he/she didn’t look anything like his/ her picture’ or ‘there was no chemistry’. To me, this somehow highlights why it is better to meet people in a real life environment… It is probably not as easy but so much more rewarding.
To start off with, the benefit of meeting face to face is that you will find out quicker if you have anything to talk about, anything in common at all and even chemistry. Let’s not forget that only 7% of communication is through words (and we should be careful what words we use but that’s for a different blog…) so having someone in front of you will tell you a lot more about them than you think.
Many people may not have the confidence to walk into a room full of strangers or to start up a conversation with someone they don’t know; it is just that little step too far out of their comfort zone and unfortunately, they are therefore missing out a great deal.
Many of us will also judge others purely on appearance without trying to speak to them or find out more about what makes them tick. Again, this means so many missed opportunities! A lady attending a Singles Night once said to me ‘I am here to meet someone, I have plenty of friends already. thank you very much!’. Guess what? That’s why she is still single. Don’t make the same mistake and be so short sighted, you may not think someone is right for you but you may also be very surprised in the future… Just get to know them and be friendly?
Are you attracting all the wrong types or no one at all? Are you struggling to meet ‘the one’? The dating roller coaster of emotions can be quite draining… And if you’re serious about meeting somebody, quite disheartening too.
